Originally from Mississippi, he moved to Chicago in adulthood and achieved success, competing with another bluesman Muddy Waters. Both are considered the founders of the Chicago blues school.With a loud voice and impressive physical size, he is one of Chicago's most famous blues artists. Many of his songs, including "Smokestack Lightnin'", "Killing Floor" and "Spoonful", became the standards of blues and blues rock. In 2011, Rolling Stone magazine ranked him number 54 on its list of the "100 Greatest Artists of All Time."
